OROVILLE, Calif. – The Butte County Sheriff's Office arrested three men for a double murder in the Oroville area.
The sheriff's office said on Oct. 21, they were contacted by family members of Jerry Bonds, 39, and Randy Bonds, 33, both of Florida. The family members reported Jerry and Randy had flown from Florida to Los Angeles, rented a vehicle, and drove to Butte County. The family members said they were concerned after losing contact with the two after they arrived in Butte County.
During the investigation, BCSO detectives, Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force detectives, BCSO Special Enforcement Unit detectives, Designated Area deputies, and Agents from the Chico FBI Office worked together and developed information that led them to believe Jerry and Randy were last seen near Pondersoa Way in Forbestown.
During a search of the area, detectives said they located the bodies of Jerry and Randy in a wooded area. It was determined Jerry and Randy had both been shot.
Detectives said they worked with the Reno Police Department and found the vehicle Jerry and Randy had rented around Boomtown, Nevada. Detectives traveled to Reno and executed a search warrant at a residence in Reno.
Additional evidence related to the murders of Jerry and Randy was found in the Reno area, according to BCSO.
Detectives identified three people: Michael Griff, age 21, Austin Hogan, age 21, and Kyle Smith, age 24, as the suspects in the murder of Jerry and Randy. It was determined Griff, Hogan, and Smith were staying at a residence on Coho Court in Oroville.
On Oct. 22, authorities contacted Hogan and Smith during a traffic enforcement stop in the Kelly Ridge area of Oroville.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Coho Court address, and an arrest warrant for Griff. On the afternoon of Oct. 22, deputies with the BCSO SWAT team executed the search warrant. During the search warrant, Griff was placed under arrest.
During a search of the Coho Court residence, detectives said they located evidence showing Griff, Hogan, and Smith were the ones responsible for the murders of Randy and Jerry.
On Oct. 22, Griff, Hogan, and Smith were booked into the Butte County Jail.
Griff, Hogan, and Smith were each booked for two counts of first-degree murder, according to BCSO. Griff, Hogan, and Smith are scheduled to be arraigned at the Butte County Superior Court on Monday, Oct. 26.
