OROVILLE, Calif. – Two Oroville residents were arrested by Butte County Sheriff’s Deputies for child endangerment after drugs and a handgun were found inside the home.
Deputies said the investigation all started due to a burglary in Gridley where 27-year-old Zachariah Odom was identified as a suspect. On May 20, a search warrant was served at Odom’s home, located in the 1600 block of 20th Street in Oroville.
Four children all under the age of six, Odom, and 70-year-old Mabel Dahl were all contacted by deputies during the search warrant. Meth, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun were all found inside the home. The meth was found in an area accessible to the children, according to the sheriff’s office.
The home was also “in deplorable condition and was not safe for children,” according to the sheriff’s news release. Odom and Dahl were placed under arrest for felony child endangerment, among other charges. All four children were detained by detectives.
During an interview, deputies said Odom admitted to participating in the Gridley burglary. The burglary case is still under investigation and will be forwarded to the Butte County District Attorney’s Office for review when completed.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with additional information to contact Detective Brian Parsons at 530-538-7671.
