CHICO, Calif. – A Chico man is in custody after deputies say he had $10,000 worth of stolen property hidden in a storage unit.
A local business contacted the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) on Nov. 30, reporting that a four-wheeler had been stolen from them. Deputies said they were able to get a hold of video surveillance of the areas around the business which led to identifying 32-year-old Michael Hubburt, as a suspect.
During a search warrant of Hubburt’s home, authorities found a firearm and ammunition. They later got another search warrant for a storage unit Hubburt had rented in Chico, according to BCSO.
In the storage unit, authorities said they located $10,000 in stolen property. They also located toolboxes containing numerous electrical supplies, and tree climbing equipment. The Sheriff’s Office said it is attempting to locate the owners of the toolboxes and tree climbing equipment.
Hubburt was placed under arrest on Jan. 5 and booked at the Butte County Jail.
