SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Brian Muir, the Auditor-Controller for Shasta County, is planning to retire in June. Muir served as the county's auditor-controller for the last seven years.

Muir tells Action News Now he planned to retire in January but because of the pandemic and lack of staff at the time, he decided to wait.

“I've been an auditor for 22 years and I’m 77-years-old,” said Muir. “I thought it was about time and I want to give some younger people a chance essentially. I have just a terrific group in my office.”

It's up to the Board of Supervisors to appoint someone to fill in Muir's spot. He hopes that someone from his office will take over.

Muir says he's looking forward to spending more time with his family. His last day with the county is June 30.
