Shasta County supervisors appoint county's next Sheriff

The Shasta County supervisors voted 4-1 to appoint the next Sheriff after former Sheriff Eric Magrini resigned in June.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted to appoint Michael Johnson as the next Shasta County Sheriff-Coroner.

The supervisors voted 4-1.

Johnson will start the position on Aug. 15 and will be the deputy for the remainder of the term, which will last through the first Monday after Jan. 1, 2023.

The Sheriff-Coroner position was open after former Sheriff Eric Magrini resigned to assistant CEO for Shasta County in June.

The current sheriff is Acting Sheriff Jason Barnhart.
