SHASTA LAKE, Calif. - Shasta County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man they said robbed a store and threatened an employee with a hatchet.

It happened Sunday around 8:20 p.m. at the Pine Grove Valero on Cascade Blvd. in the City of Shasta Lake.

Deputies said an employee at the location reported a male entered the business, 25-year-old Jan-Michael Oostermeyer, a transient from southern California, stole items from a Shasta Lake store.

Oostermeyer threatened an employee with a hatchet, that he was hiding in his boot, before riding away on a bike, according to deputies.

A short time later deputies found Oostermeyer on his bike with the stolen items and the hatchet.

Deputies said they arrested Oostermeyer without incident and booked him into the Shasta County jail for second degree robbery.

Thursday was the last fairly quiet weather day that we'll have in northern California as a series of storms will move our way through next week. Our first chance for rain and snow showers arrives Friday morning with a cold front.
