REDDING, Calif. - A man died in a collision in Redding on Wednesday, according to Michael Dimatteo, a corporal assigned to the traffic division for the Redding Police Department.

Redding police said the motorcyclist was headed southbound on Railroad Ave. approaching the intersection of Eugenia Ave. The driver of a 2016 Toyota Avalon was preparing to exit the parking lot of Owens Pharmacy, located at 2950 Eugenia Ave. When for unknown reasons, the motorcyclist lost control and was ejected, striking the Toyota.

At 4:19 p.m., officers responded to the area of Railroad Ave. where they found a man in the road and his motorcycle just south of him. Officers said the motorcyclist was dead when they arrived on the scene.

The Toyota Avalon was pulled off the road and parked in a driveway. Officers said the occupants of the Toyota were uninjured.

The Redding Police Departments Traffic Unit is investigating the cause of the collision. Officers said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time. All parties were wearing or utilizing appropriate safety equipment at the time of the collision.

The identities of the people involved in the collision have not been released.

Showers are tapering off early Tuesday, and we're left with areas of dense fog for your Tuesday morning commute. We'll have clearing skies and warmer temperatures ahead for your Tuesday afternoon, but the next wet system will arrive on Wednesday. Some showers will linger Thursday, but we'll dry and and become chilly late this week. A substantial wet system will then bring heavy rain and snow to our region from Sunday through at least the start of next week.
