SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - A male inmate from the Shasta County Jail died just after 5 a.m. on Sunday, deputies said.
Shasta County Sheriff's Office announced that correctional deputies and a medical staff member observed a male inmate to be having medical difficulties while he was in his cell at the Shasta County Jail.
Staff escorted the inmate to the jail medical unit where he became unresponsive. Medical staff immediately started life-saving efforts while an LSU was called to the jail. He was later pronounced dead by authorized medical personnel at the jail.
Shasta County Sheriff's Office detectives and Coroner's Office personnel were called to investigate the incident.
An autopsy of the subject will be scheduled to determine the cause and manner of his death. The identity has been released to be John Adena of Redding.
