Shasta Community Health Center participates in the American Dental Association's "Give Kids A Smile" national campaign offering free dental services to uninsured, low income children 1 to 18 years old.

This is the centerpiece to National Children's Dental Health Month and is observed every year on the first Friday in February.

The American Dental Association (ADA) launched the Give Kids A Smile program nationally in 2003 as a way for dental providers to join with others in the community to provide dental services to underserved children. Each year, about 350,000 to 400,000 children benefit from more than 1,500 events, all because of the efforts of 40,000 or more annual volunteers nationwide. Shasta Community Health Center has participated since 2005 and served over 100 children each year.

Here is the information on the Chico event for Friday.

A Chico area dental office will be offering free dental care to uninsured children on Friday, Feb. 2, as part of the American Dental Association's "Give Kids A Smile" campaign.

The dental office of Erik Roos will host this year's one-day event serving children ages 1-12. Pre-registration for the event is required. Dental services will be provided by local dentists, hygienists, assistants and volunteers. Appointments are limited to the first 100 children and all children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Last year the campaign in Chico served about 80 children, who received much-need dental work, including cleaning, fluoride treatments, fillings and tooth extraction. About 40 people volunteered to help the kids, including dentists, orthodontists, hygienists and office assistants, and community members provided food free of charge and delivered balloons.

Roos' office is at 2775 The Esplanade. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call Roos' office at 893-4044.
