Happy first day of the summer season! The warming trend will get back on track today. Sunny skies, dry weather, and warmer temperatures are on the way for your Thursday forecast. The active weather that passed through the Northern Mountains yesterday has now tapered off, and we are starting out mostly clear this morning. Temperatures have dipped into the high 50's to mid 60's in the valley overnight, and into the 40's for most mountain areas. Skies will stay sunny to mostly sunny today, and winds are expected to be light. Winds are starting off out of the Northeast to around 5mph this morning, and should stay in that same range through the day. Humidity is expected to dip into the 10 to 25 percent range this afternoon, and that will help to usher in higher fire danger today. Temperatures are projected to top out in the high 90's to low triple digits in the valley today, and in the 80's to 90's in the mountains this afternoon.

The hot and dry conditions will only intensify over the next several days. Widespread triple digit high temperatures are projected for the valley from Friday through Sunday. Most valley areas are expected to top out in the 105 to 110 degree range for those 3 days. Overnight low temperatures will also stay extremely warm, and will more than likely stay above 70 degrees for the next 4 mornings in the valley. An Excessive Heat Watch will be in place across the majority of our region from Friday afternoon through Sunday. A Fire Weather Watch will be in place from Saturday morning through Sunday morning for most areas below 3000 feet. Heat related illness will be a major concern for the next several days, as will high to extreme fire danger conditions across our region. It's very important to keep an eye on loved ones, and pets during this time frame. It's also very important to make sure you aren't doing things that could spark a fire. It's not a bad idea to avoid mowing your lawn, welding, or grilling during this time frame to mitigate fire danger risks. If you're planning on towing cargo behind your vehicle, you'll also want to make sure that any chain used to connect your vehicle to the trailer is safely secured, and not dragging on the road as you drive.

It's going to stay hot and dry for the start of next week, but it does look like we will fall out of the triple digits on Monday. Valley areas are projected to stay in the mid to high 90's for the start to middle of next week.

Winds have calmed down but we remain dry. Temperatures will be in the upper-70s to low-80s for the rest of the week. This quiet weather is good for fire danger but unfortunate since no rain is in the forecast.
