CHICO, Calif. - Firefighters have contained an early morning fire that destroyed several cars at a Chico apartment complex.

Firefighters said the fire was first reported around 5:10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bidwell Manor Apartments on Esplanade and W. 1st Ave.

The flames began in the complex's carport, destroying the structure and several cars stored below it, according to the Chico Fire Department. From there, flames spread to an overhead powerline, and then into a nearby apartment. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to just that apartment.

Everyone in the complex was evacuated, and no injuries have been reported, CFD said.

W. 1st Ave. was closed from Esplanade to Magnolia Ave. Tuesday morning, they have since reopened. PG&E arrived on the scene to help access the damage to the power line.

Light scattered showers are on tap for the start of your Thursday, and I'm tracking heavier rain ahead from Thursday afternoon through mid day Friday. We'll have a lull in our wet pattern late Friday through early Saturday, but even heavier rain and snow will return this weekend and persist into next week. Major travel impacts will be possible across northern California from this wet weather.
