CHICO, Calif. – Chico State Police arrested a man for vandalizing two campus buildings.

University Police investigated Tuesday after discovering that two campus buildings had been vandalized with graffiti. UPD collected physical evidence that led them to a local art supply store where they obtained security footage.

In the video, a suspect was seen purchasing pens and markers that police say were used in the vandalism. The following day, as an officer was conducting an area check of the downtown plaza, he located the suspect seen in the security video. Police identified him as 33-year-old Justin Nussbaum.

Nussbaum was arrested for possessing vandalism tools and narcotics, according to police. Criminal charges were filed with the Butte County District Attorney’s Office for the two vandalism cases on the Chico State campus.

Following the arrest, UPD said they spoke to a Chico Downtown Ambassador who advised that they have documented multiple cases of vandalism involving Nussbaum’s alleged tagging.
