Shasta County, Calif.-- The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing Redding man, last seen in the area of Bear Creek Falls; an area on Ponderosa Way, about two miles north of State Highway 44 in Shingletown.
Deputies say 35-year old Wayde Richard Rego was reported missing early Monday morning, just after 1:00AM.
Two friends told deputies they were with Rego on Sunday afternoon. They told officers they were drinking throughout the day and they say Rego became intoxicated. They said as they began leaving the area to walk back to their cars, they noticed Rego was not following them. Both individuals say they returned to the same area near the waterfall area to retrieve Rego but could not locate him.
Once advised of the situation, deputies searched the area near the Bear Creek Falls; an area described as steep and rocky terrain, with water running at a high volume. Deputies also searched the area surrounding the roadways in attempts to locate Rego.
Members of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team then responded to the Bear Creek Falls area on Monday during the day to continue the search for Rego. The California Highway Patrol has also assisted, checking the area with helicopter and plane.
As of Tuesday at 8:41AM, Rego has not been located.
He is described as a white male, 35 years old, six feet tall, weighting around 190 pounds, with red hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie-type sweatshirt, blue jeans, tan boots and a black baseball cap.
Rego does not have a cell phone or a vehicle.
The search and investigation continues. If you have seen this man or have any information on his whereabouts, you are asked to contact Shascom at 530.245.6540.
