Butte County, Calif.-- Boating, fishing, swimming; this Summer many of us will spend time out on the water.

But every year it happens - a fun day on the water turns into a nightmare.

Fortunately Sgt. Jack Storne here says the Butte County Search & Rescue team of volunteers is ready for anything.

On hand at the Chico warehouse, they have 2 person water crafts and an inflatable rescue boat that allow quick response to a potential drowning or water rescue calls.

These are also used to patrol the Sacramento River during Labor Day weekend.

Each watercraft is capable of transporting a driver, rescuer even in rough waters.

It's not just in the water; there are some real risks out in the wilderness, Search and Rescue has seen it all.

Storne says keep yourself out of trouble by always hiking in pairs, bring food and water and a fully charged cell phone.

Be aware if you're in an area where you don't have good reception, be sure that you know where you are and that you stay on trail.

If you do get hurt or lost, Search & Rescue has some pretty great resources.

They have a mobile office, several SUVs used to transport people and tow equipment on missions and trainings - and they're stocked with rope rescue equipment, medical gear and supplies.

A military OH-58 Helicopter, "H1" is used for aerial searches and technical rescues with the Helicopter Rescue Technicians.

H1 does the short haul rescues where a rescue technician is dropped down using a 150 foot rope.
