Code RED is an alert system that lets people know about emergencies in the area.

"It's a great way for the public safety to get out notifications regarding lots of different circumstances not just evacuations but also any type of police activity in an area that could be dangerous if there is an armed subject or evacuations," said Jennifer Cogle, SHASCOM administrator supervisor.

The alert going out Friday will be a test.
