UPDATE: 12:04 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020 – A suspected DUI driver went to the hospital with major injuries after a crash that closed Cohasset Road in Chico for over three hours.

When officers arrived on the scene of the collision on Cohasset Road near Boeing Ave., they located the Toyota sedan off the road, in the eastern ravine, upside down. The driver, identified as 49-year-old, Shareef Abouzeid, was found inside the vehicle.

Emergency personnel removed him from the vehicle and took him to a local hospital for treatment.

Through investigation, Chico Police said they believe Abouzeid was driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested at the hospital and later released with a citation as hospital staff admitted him for treatment.

Cohasset Road was closed for three and a half hours during the investigation Wednesday.

CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police are investigating a July 8 crash after they say the driver overcorrected and rolled his car.

It happened just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday when, according to officers, the driver was going north on Cohasset when he left the roadway, overcorrected and then left the roadway again, flipping his car.

The driver is in stable condition after being taken to the hospital for major injuries.

Police say alcohol does seem to be a factor, but they do not yet know why he left the roadway in the first place.

At this time, traffic is being turned around at Boeing Avenue and Twin Oaks Drive. Officials on scene say it could be closed until at least 11 p.m.

December began on a beautiful note for northern California with plentiful sunshine, seasonably cool lows and warmer than average highs. Much of wednesday will be similar to today, but clouds will stream into our sky late in the day.
