OROVILLE, Calif. - A Chico man was chased down by a K9 officer in Oroville after deputies identified him as a suspect in two burglaries committed Saturday evening in Oroville at businesses on Monte Vista Ave.

Just before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday Butte County Sheriff's officers showed up at the 7-Eleven Mini Mart at 2125 Monte Vista Ave. to investigate a reported robbery.

Deputies were told someone came into the store and assaulted the clerk, who had confronted the man who was attempting to steal beer. The man got away with the beer and deputies were not able to find him, at least right away.

Approximately 20 minutes after the robbery officers showed up to what had been reported as an "in-progress burglary" directly across the street from the 7-Eleven. The noted the description of the burglary suspect was similar to the robbery suspect who remained on the loose.

Deputy Arredondo contacted 50-year-old Thomas Remy after he arrived to investigate the burglary-in-progress. The Deputy also had his K9 partner Chico with him, who ended up playing a critical role in the eventual arrest of the suspect and protection of the law enforcement officer.

The deputy said Remy would not comply with his commands and advanced toward him with a beer bottle in hand. Deputy Arredondo shot his Taser at Remy, but said it had no effect on the suspect. Remy ran into a densely vegetated area, down a steep embankment and jumped over a barbed wire fence.

Then K9 Chico's heroics came into play. Chico was sent to apprehend Remy on the other side of the fence, where he was stopped and taken into custody after resisting arrest.

Remy was taken to a local hospital for treatment. When he is released he will be booked for resisting arrest, robbery and burglary. His bail has been set at $83,000 said officials from the Butte County Sheriff's Office.

It was a bright and breezy Friday for northern California, however the wind has been much stronger over Modoc County where a High Wind Warning is in effect through this evening. Stronger wind and cooler air will define our weather Saturday.
