REDDING, Calif. - People from all over the North State gathered in Redding Saturday to celebrate the lives of two brothers who died during the crash of Ethiopian Airlines flight 302.
Melvin and Bennett Riffel's lives were memorialized at the Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church on Saturday. They were two of over 150 people who died aboard flight 302.
The brothers were Redding natives who were well known in the community. Melvin and his wife Brittney lived in Chico.She is pregnant, expecting a baby girl.
The Riffel brothers were on their way to Africa from Australia as part of a "babymoon" trip. They brothers were taking the last part of the trip by themselves.
The service was crowded. Outside visitors continued to place flowers and candles at the bell tower with cards and messages for the Riffel family.
The parents, Ike and Susan Riffel, spoke in appreciation of people's attendance at the memorial and their support for their family. A message was shared from the pulpit about the strengthened faith that was being experienced, even in the wake of such a huge tragedy.
