REDDING, Calif. – 23-year-old Savannah Kay Challe was arrested by Redding police officers on Saturday morning after they said she had been discovered inside of a Redding Area Bus Authority (RABA) bus that was parked at the maintenance facility in the 3300 block of S. Market Street.
Dispatchers received a call at approximately 11:00 a.m. saying there was a trespasser on the RABA property.
Officers said they were told a woman had broken into a parked bus and was refusing to leave. They said they later were told that the trespasser was armed with a knife and was threatening staff members at the RABA facility.
When officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with Challe, a repeat offender they described as “yelling and uncooperative.”
Officers negotiated with Challe and said they were able to safely take her into custody. She was booked into the Shasta County Jail for making criminal threats, brandishing a deadly weapon, elder abuse, trespassing, and violating the terms of her probation.
Since the beginning of 2021, the Redding Police Department has received more than 40 calls for service related to Savannah Challe. Investigators said she has been arrested more than 20 times since the beginning of the year.
Challe is already on probation for a weapons-related offense, said Redding police.
In May of 2021, Challe was involved in an incident with police that ended in damage to the roof of a department vehicle.
Officers said Challe had jumped on top of a marked patrol vehicle near Weldon Street and Freebridge Street during the Thursday morning, May 6 incident.
