Redding suspected arsonist arrested with outstanding warrants

A Redding man was arrested in connection to starting a mobile home fire on Sunday.

REDDING, Calif. - A person was arrested in connection to starting a fire to a double-wide mobile home in west Redding, according to CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit.

On Sunday, multiple fire agencies responded to a structure fire at the 16000 block of Schilling Rd. in west Redding Sunday.

CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit said a double-wide mobile home was on fire. Officials learned there was a disturbance that happened before the fire was reported.

37-year-old Cody Mosteller of Redding left the scene before fire crews arrived at the location, according to CAL FIRE.

Officials said Mosteller was responsible for starting the fire and was later contacted and interviewed by CAL FIRE Law Enforcement.

Mosteller was taken to the Shasta County Jail for several outstanding warrants and with an addition arson to an inhabited structure and arson during a state of emergency.

Officials are trying to locate a Yamaha ATV that could be connected to the case.

CAL FIRE said the fire caused about $85,000 worth of damage.

It took a few hours, but the sun broke through the clouds over most of northern California Tuesday afternoon. The low clouds, fog and light rain showers return to the valley Wednesday, with snowy weather in the mountains.
