If you are driving in the city of Redding this week you may see an all-new piece of law enforcement equipment to help keep the public safe.
Redding police starting this week is putting all new dodge chargers, specially made for the Redding police department, into their fleet to patrol the streets of Redding.
The police department in total will eventually have six of these vehicles and they will be replacing the department’s old Crown Victoria’s which in some cases are up to 10 years old.
Redding police chose for these cars because they are around 7 thousand dollars less expensive than the next alternative, The Ford Explorer.
That savings also doesn’t account for the repair cost of the old Crown Victoria Police interceptors that have now been the standard police car for decades.
Right now the department has some Ford Explorer’s in their fleet as well and they say that the department eventually would like to have a fleet with both so they can be prepared for every situation.
In an effort to increase community outreach the cars also come with logos on the bumper showing all of their social media platforms but you can also find them here.
The department has just finished work on 3 of the 6 vehicles and is working on the remainder.
Now in riding in one, you can definitely tell the cars are safer and more than the older models and will provide a significant improvement for the department.
