REDDING, Calif. – Redding Police Officers arrested a man for DUI after he crashed into a woman’s car who had two children inside with her.
The collision happened on Lake Boulevard near St. Marks Street around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
When officers were on scene they contacted 33-year-old Marco Antonio Merino, of Redding.
Witnesses told officers they reported seeing Merino’s vehicle swerving in and out of traffic minutes before he collided into the back of another vehicle.
After colliding into the back of another vehicle, this pushed the vehicle off the road and into a tree. The vehicle was being driven by a woman who had a 9-year-old and 11-year-old in the vehicle with her.
Those three people were transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
Police said Merino was under the influence and arrested. Merino was transported to a local hospital where he threatened the hospital staff, patients, and officers.
Merino was booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony DUI, proving false information to a Peace Officer, resisting arrest, and resisting arrest by threatening use of force or violence against the Officers.
