UPDATE 11:34 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3 - Authorities have identified that person as 27-year-old Diana Elizabeth Schalk of Pembroke, Kentucky.

The decedent’s next-of-kin has been notified. The case remains under investigation by the CHP.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. – A deadly crash ended in a DUI arrest near Whiskeytown in Shasta County on Wednesday night.

The fatal collision happened east of Grizzly Gulch Road around 8 p.m.

The CHP said 42-year-old Hawk Blaze Bergstorm was driving a Toyota pickup when he hit a woman who was driving a Chevy pickup head-on. The woman did not have any passengers in the car.

The woman died from her injuries in the collision. She has not been identified pending notification of her next of kin, according to the CHP.

Bergstorm received major injuries and was taken to Shasta Regional Medical Center for treatment, the CHP said.

He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
