Redding's Vice Mayor Brent Weaver is not seeking re-election.
Weaver has served on Redding’s city council since 2014 and was mayor in 2017.
He said he’s stepping down after his current term in office ends in November in order to spend more time with his family.
“I’ve just thoroughly enjoyed the last four years,” he said. “You know, I grew up in Redding. It's my hometown. I moved back after college and working in the city. What a great honor to get to serve in the community I grew up in.”
Weaver said, in the time he has left, he'd like continue to focus on improving public safety as well as participating in the Mayor's Mountain Bike Challenge which he launched last year.
While this is the end of the road for him for now, he's not ruling out any future runs for office.
