REDDING, Calif. - A man is in the hospital and the suspect is still on the loose following a shooting at the Red Lion Inn on the evening of Jan. 8.
Officials say they were called to the hotel at about 6 p.m. to the report of a gunshot victim who, they were told, was being loaded into a vehicle and was bleeding from his lower abdomen.
As officers arrived at the East Cypress location, they learned a gunshot victim arrived at Mercy Medical Center. Additional officers were sent to the hospital to investigate.
The victim, 39-year-old Udom Chao, was found to have a through gunshot wound to both legs. Officials say his injuries are not life-threatening.
Chao, though uncooperative, provided information to officers and officials say the information was later determined to be false after reviewing surveillance video.
At the crime scene, officials say a shell casing, projectile, blood, and marijuana were all found both in and outside the room.
In surveillance video, they found what they say looked like a marijuana-related robbery. Officials say an African-American man can be seen in the video pointing a handgun at the men in the room before walking out carrying two large garbage bags.
Redding Police provided a suspect description saying the man is in his late-thirties to early-forties, wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes.
The vehicle that the suspect left in is described as a blue or grey 2011 Ford Fusion bearing California license plate 7UHH373.
Officials say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
With an investigation ongoing, officials ask if you have any information regarding the shooting to contact them at 530-225-4200.
