REDDING, Calif. - Redding Police say that a suspects’ daughter ended a 45-minute standoff between officers and her father, who had barricaded himself in an RV.
On Saturday, Oct. 6, officers say they responded to a call about a disturbance involving a man and a woman in an RV. However, when officers arrived, the RV had been moved to a different location and was left empty. Despite this, officers were able to identify the man involved in the disturbance as Louie Alex Ortiz, who had an active felony warrant out for his arrest, and was on Post Release Community Supervision.
The next day, an officer found the same RV parked in a different location. When the officer pulled behind the RV, he saw a man jump into the motorhome and close the door behind him. The officer was able to identify the man as Ortiz and called for backup to assist in an arrest. Police surrounded the RV with Ortiz inside. A standoff ensued, with officers attempting to get Ortiz to surrender for 45 minutes. Ortiz refused to exit the RV.
Unbeknown to Officers, Ortiz’ daughter learned about the situation. She arrived on scene and yelled at her father to surrender himself to officers.
Within minutes, he exited the RV, apologized to his daughter and was arrested without further incident.
Ortiz was booked at the Shasta County Jail for his outstanding warrant and resisting arrest.
