REDDING, Calif. - Redding Police say they captured two prowlers in a neighborhood early Thursday morning.

Police were conducting extra patrols at 1 a.m. Thursday in the Creekside Street and Mullen Parkway area due to recent thefts and burglaries in the neighborhood. Officers found a truck with a shattered window, a punched ignition and a warm engine. Officers believed the truck was either stolen or parked by somebody who was prowling the neighborhood.

Police found two men a few minutes later who immediately fled on foot. John Logan Beard, 32, of Redding, was pepper sprayed during the foot chase. He was arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail for resisting arrest, violating his parole, possession of a pipe used for smoking illegal drugs and two warrants.

The other subject, who was later identified as Visai Mokthephathai, was chased through a canal filled with knee-high water and ultimately gave up when an officer deployed his baton but did not strike him. Mokthephathai was arrested and booked into Shasta County jail for resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer.
