Redding PD, firefighters rescue four-year-old child found down steep embankment

Redding Police Officers and the Redding Fire Department teamed up to save a four-year-old child Wednesday afternoon.

REDDING, Calif. – Redding Police Officers and the Redding Fire Department teamed up to save a four-year-old child Wednesday afternoon.

Around 11:20 a.m. Redding Police Officers responded to a call of a missing four-year-old autistic child in the area of Trinity Street and East Street in downtown Redding.

Corporal Jon Sheldon with Redding PD said they located the child off the cliff at the north end of East Street, along the Sacramento River, about 70 feet down the steep embankment.

Officers descended the slope and were able to locate the child suspended and entangled in thick berry bushes along the embankment, according to the police.

The Redding Fire Department and assisted in pulling up Officer Labbe and the child to safety. The child had minor injuries and was taken into protective custody, according to the police.

Criminal charges are being sought against the parents for child endangerment, officers said.
