Redding Man Attempts to Stab Woman at Deluxe Inn: Police

A Redding man was arrested Monday after a call of a disturbance lead authorities to discover that he tried to stab a woman at a motel room, said the Redding Police Department.

REDDING, Calif. - A Redding man was arrested Monday after a call of a disturbance lead authorities to discover that he tried to stab a woman at a motel room, said the Redding Police Department.

According to Redding police, a 911 call came into SHASCOM dispatch just before 12:30 a.m., during the call, SHASCOM could hear a disturbance in the background.

Officers arrived at the Deluxe Inn on Market Street, where they found a woman in front of the motel, later telling officers that a man tried to stab her.

The female victim continued to say that she grabbed the knife and wrestled it away from him, but when she tried calling 911 the suspect known as Timothy Pudwell, 61, of Redding, snatched the phone away from her.

She was then punched and kicked in the head by Pudwell, according to Redding police.

When authorities tried contacting Pudwell it took almost an hour to take him into custody as authorities were waiting for him to leave the motel room.

Pudwell is on CDCR parole for assault with a deadly weapon, has been arrested for various felonies including assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, officials said.


The suspect was booked into the Shasta County Jail, the female victim was treated at a hospital for her injuries.
