REDDING, Calif. – For the first time ever, Redding Fire Station 2 will be staffed with a permanent firefighter.
Ever since Chief Jerrod Vanlandingham came to the Redding Fire Department, it has been his goal to get 3-person staffing on their engines. With fire season approaching, Chief Vanlandingham said it is critical to make sure their engines are staffed.
“First time ever that we're able to get three-person staffing on all of our fire engines in the city,” said Vanlandingham. “We're hoping we can get all these firefighters on the rigs before we end up in too bad of a situation for fire season but it's critical.”
Funding for this comes from REU’s Wildfire Mitigation plan, which the Redding Fire Department is a part of.
Vanlandingham said he expects to have stations 4 and 7 staffed sometime in June. All other fire stations already have 3-person staffing on their engines – stations 2, 4, and 7 will be the last.
