REDDING, Calif. - The Redding Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at an automotive shop in downtown Redding on the night of Friday, Feb 28.

According to officials, the fire occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m., at Pro-Trans Automotive & Transmissions at 1113 Center Street in downtown Redding.

Officials say the first arriving engine company reported a pile of tires burning on the side of the structure with possible extension to the building. Fire crews made access into the structure and found that the fire had extended into the building.

The fire damaged three vehicles, destroyed transmission parts and assorted tools. The building has extensive damage to the wall and roof along with smoke damage throughout. Crews contained the fire in 20 minutes. No injuries reported.

Officials say the owner of the business has had problems with transients camping alongside the building and has tried to secure the area.

The fire is currently under investigation.

Cloudy skies and very light scattered showers are lingering across northern California for the start of your Wednesday, but we'll be clearing out and warming up Wednesday afternoon. We'll be sunny and warmer on Thursday, but clouds will increase Friday. More showers are looking likely Friday night into Saturday, but we'll dry out again for Halloween on Sunday.
