REDDING, Calif. - Health care workers are dealing with a shortage of medical supplies. From gloves, to goggles, to masks.
The members of the Redding Fashion Alliance using their sewing skills to create masks for health care workers.
Since starting last week, it received about 100 requests for mask kits. Each kit can make up to 15 masks. Executive Director Jan Kearns tells Action News Now, it's about stepping up in a time of need.
“We're really in a crisis and it’s going to take everybody's help to do that,” said Kearns. “This is something that we can do that really will provide some support.”
The Redding Fashion Alliance says, these homemade masks will not give the protection of an N-95 mask. They are meant as an extra layer over the N-95 or to be used as alternative if nothing else is available.
