Redding Couple Rebuilds After Meeting Ellen

REDDING, Calif - It's been a week since a Redding couple's life changed forever.

After losing their home in the Carr Fire they were gifted the money to rebuild from none other than Ellen Degeneres.

“ I love fire fighters and it's just devastating what happened to you so our friends at Shutterfly like supporting people in need and they want to round that up to $50,000” said Degeneres.

“We were definely in shock when we got there then they called us up on stage and we were not expecting it at all," said Hope Jordan.

Eric Johnson has been an engineer with Cal Fire for nine years, and his girlfriend Hope works at “Finders Keepers” in Redding.

But when the Carr Fire hit he was fighting another fire and hope was forced to evacuate all by herself.

“It was just me at the house I left with an overnight bag and my dog and that was it, “ said Jordan.

Jordan tells Action News Now they’ve tried to stay really positive in light of losing their home but after Ellen and Shutterfly’s generosity they’re now excited for the future and can’t say thank you enough.

"I would say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. The gift that she gave us was the most amazing thing ever, and we are so happy and so thrilled and just thank you thank you so much, " said Jordan.

Thankfully our windy, fire danger weather pattern is coming to an end over northern California. The wind will decrease to lighter breezes late tonight through tomorrow, and our fire danger won't be quite as extreme going forward.
