REDDING, Calif. - After a lot of delays, Costco is moving forward.
At Tuesday’s Redding City Council meeting, the council unanimously voted to green-light the project.
During the public hearing, issues about traffic changes and noise concerns were discussed. Costco representatives were not at the meeting. But the city presented what looked like the warehouse’s petition. The city says over 8000 people supported the project, while 97 were against it.
“I like the fact that they’re moving to that side of town,” said Rob Zimmerman, who owns a home nearby. “I think it’s going to be easier access for us.”
But people who work around the area have their own concerns.
“There's going to be a need for more street light,” said Sam Deol, whose law firm is just across the street. “I would be concerned with the local businesses.”
The new Costco site would be located on South Bonnyview Road and Bechelli Lane, which is just off of I-5. The warehouse itself would span about 152,000 square feet and include up to 30 gas pumps.
The new site also plans for up to 62,000 square feet of retail space.
