TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. - A Tehama County man was arrested after investigators said they located 60 guns and over 50,000 rounds of ammunition in a bunker at the man's residence.
Tehama County District Attorney's Office said Gary Wayne Stiles, 62 years-old of Red Bluff, allegedly harassed and threatened multiple people which resulted in a restraining order. Under California law, those who are under control of a restraining order are required to surrender their firearms during the period of the order.
The Office received information that Stiles was in possession of firearms and was continuing to harass and threaten the individuals following the serving of the restraining order.
An investigation began into the unlawful possession of firearms and investigators obtained a search warrant based on the information they had earlier received. On September 9, District Attorney Investigators served the search warrant at Stiles' residence on Vassar Road, west of Red Bluff.
Investigators said seven semi-automatic rifles, which are unlawful under California's Assault Weapons laws, and 53 other firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns, were located.
Over 50 "high capacity" magazines and drum magazines, capable of holding between 30 and 75 rounds, were located, as well as over 50,000 rounds of ammunition.
Many of the weapons and ammunition found were in a steel room bunker approximately 10 feet underground.
Investigators located Stiles in Red Bluff and after interviewing him, arrested him and booked him into the Tehama County jail with a bail set at $500,000.
With the investigation continuing into the source of the weapons, the District Attorney said additional arrest are forthcoming.
