RED BLUFF, Calif. - The Red Bluff 11-12 All-Star Softball team is preparing for its regional tournament.
The team dominated in Districts, Sectionals and State.
"We preach to them all the time, work hard, practice hard, play hard and the rewards will come," Red Bluff Coach Andy Newport said. "It's awesome to see it come to fruition."
"It's honestly so fun and so cool because we've been undefeated through all of them," All-Star player Ashtyn Johnston-Dover said.
The team beat every team they played by at least 10 runs. That helped them win the state title for the first time ever.
"The pitching was fantastic for us," Coach Newport said. "We didn't allow very many runs. Our bats came alive and just hit the heck out of the ball."
"I didn't believe it because we've never made it this far," All-Star player Carissa Gibson said. "We stopped at sectionals. We've never gone this far or gone this big, which is crazy. I'm just excited and happy."
Gibson says she can't wait to play on the field in San Bernardino. If the team wins, they earn a spot in the Little League World Series.
"I've seen pictures of it," she said. "It looks huge, like something we've never played on before. That first step on that field opens a new chapter of my life."
"We're gonna play hard," Coach Newport said. "We're going down there to win. We're gonna try to do it. But just this experience that we get and this opportunity for the kids is fantastic. We want to represent the North State."
The team plays its first game July 24th. The game starts at noon and can be watched on ESPN+.
