WASHINGTON - President Trump skipped the White House correspondent’s dinner in Washington. Trump spent the evening with a friendly crowd in Michigan.
For the second straight year, President Trump skipped the White House correspondent's dinner.
“I was invited to another event tonight. The White House correspondent's dinner I’d much rather be here in Washington, Michigan than Washington D.C.,” Trump said.
Instead, the president held a rally hitting all of the themes that helped him win Michigan.
“We believe that a strong nation must have strong borders… we’re going to put America first,” Trump said.
He also roasted the press for its coverage of the recent summit between North and South Korea.
“They were saying what do you think ah President Trump had to do with it… how about everything!” Trump said.
Some of the president's supporters in the crowd here say they don't blame him for skipping the annual event in Washington.
The people at the correspondent’s dinner have just mocked him… would you sit at a dinner where they all hate you? I wouldn't,” said Patty Wiegand, a Trump supporter.
Comedian Michelle Wolf hosted the star-studded soiree.
“It is kind of crazy that the Trump campaign was in contact with Russia when the Hillary campaign wasn't even in contact with Michigan,” Wolf said.
