Chico, Calif.--This afternoon about 10,000 pounds of catfish were released at the Horeshoe Lake in Upper Bidwell Park.
It comes ahead of tomorrow's 31st annual “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” event where kids are provided with a fishing rod, the reels, and the worms.
The kids will even get professional help preparing the fish to take home so that their parents can cook it for them. The best part yet? It's all free.
This event is only made possible thanks to many local businesses and volunteers.
"I just to see the look on the kids' face when they catch a big fish, or hear a scream from across the lake, I just love it, said Bob Evans, one of the event organizers.
The event begins at 7 a.m. Saturday and ends at noon and they are expecting at least 2,000 kids to attend. Evans says the earlier you get there, the more likely you are to get a big fish!
