CHICO, Calif. - Chico City Council will consider on Tuesday night's meeting, five locations and possible funding options for portable restrooms near greenways and creeks around town.
The total cost of the portable bathrooms is around $81,000 per year
Public Works Director of Operations and Maintenance Eric Gustafson said right now there isn’t secured funding for these units, but the Bidwell Park and Playground Commission came up with multiple location ideas.
Gustafson said the monthly cost is about $6,700 and a large component of the cost comes from the added cleaning frequency.
Gustafson said this cost would affect taxpayer dollars.
The tan portable restrooms are of course more aesthetically pleasing, Gustafson said, which some are already seen by the parks – but the standard blue units will most likely be used.
The restrooms will also have a sink washing station as well.
The commission wants the units to be cleaned 5 times a week and the goal is to keep human waste out of the city's creeks and waterways.
