REDDING, Calif. – The holiday season has officially begun, and Redding Police is warning residents to keep their eyes peeled for so-called “porch pirates.”

Police busted a man in Redding they say attempted to steal a package off a porch. Officers arrested 24-year-old Isiah Cash, of Redding. They said he was wearing a child’s spiderman backpack, the very backpack that was inside the package.

It happened on the 1100 block of Lancers Lane, early Sunday morning. Cash is on active probation for narcotics and was arrested for theft and booked at the Shasta County Jail, according to the Redding Police Department.

The spiderman backpack was returned to the family.

The Redding Police Department is reminding everyone that with the upcoming holidays, thefts from package deliveries can become common. They encourage citizens to remove packages from their porches in a timely manner.
