Police arrest armed felon in downtown Chico

The Chico Police Department responded to a report of an intoxicated person passed out in a vehicle on Main St. around midnight Sunday.

CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police Department responded to a call of a person passed out in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle on 222 Main St. Sunday at midnight, the police department said.

Officers identified the person as 30-year-old Rogelio Miguel Martinez. They determined he was intoxicated.

The police department said officers obtained probable cause to search Martinez’s vehicle. This is when they said they located a .40 caliber handgun.

Officers determined Martinez was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms.

Martinez was booked into the Butte County Jail for felon in possession of a firearm and public intoxication.
