REDDING, Calif. – Redding Police are searching for a man who stole a car then crashed it into a building in the city early Monday morning.
A victim told police officers that a man stole her 2006 Honda Accord on Sunday night from a residence on the 700 block of South Street in Redding. The victim said he was in his home when he heard the backdoor close, then his car started and was driven away from outside the garage.
Redding Police Officers said they located a stolen Honda Accord crashed into a structure with a passenger majorly injured.
Around 5 a.m. Monday, a police officer attempted a traffic stop on the stolen Honda at the Jack in the Box at 4085 Railroad Ave. The Honda didn’t stop and sped off to northbound Market St. The officer did not pursue the stolen Honda due to the rain and unsafe roadway conditions, according to the police.
Shortly later, another police officer said he located the stolen Honda. The car was located at West Coast Auto Sales at 2165 Pine St. with major damage. Officers said it appeared the driver crashed into the building under construction.
63-year-old Marcus Lego was found by officers in the passenger seat of the Honda. Lego was transported to Mercy Medical Center.
However, the driver ran off and is still missing. Police said Lego could not identify the driver but say he's described as an Asian male with long black hair and a blue shirt.
This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department at 530-225-4200.
