Police: Man arrested after firing shots at a house party in west Chico

Chico police arrested a man after he fired several rounds from a firearm at a party in west Chico on Sunday evening.

CHICO, Calif. – Chico police arrested a man after he fired several rounds from a firearm at a party in west Chico on Sunday evening.

Chico police said they received several 911 calls of a fight at a party Sunday around 10 p.m. at 1117 W. Sacramento Avenue in west Chico.

Through investigation, officers learned that during a fight, a man pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds from the firearm, striking a vehicle and buildings in the apartment complex and an adjacent apartment complex, according to police.

The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Asante Ayers, police said they located him walking on W. Sacramento Avenue.

Ayers attempted to discard a handgun when officers contacted him. Police said they learned Ayers is a convicted felon and the firearm on him was stolen.

The investigation into the shooting is still active.

Ayers was booked at the Butte County Jail in Oroville and is being held on $95,500 bail, according to police.
