REDDING, Calif. – A Redding man was arrested for causing a head-on collision while driving under the influence, according to the police.
33-year-old Hal Kimberly Sutherland, was arrested Wednesday for DUI, fleeing the scene of a collision and violating terms of his post-release community supervision, police say.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. on the 200 block of Hilltop Drive. Police said a white van was headed north on Hilltop Drive while a black Ford F150 was headed southbound. The truck driver made a left turn and struck the van head-on, disabling both vehicles.
The driver of the truck ran from the scene. The passenger and driver of the van suffered lacerations, the driver was transported to the hospital, police say.
Officers then contacted the CHP Northern Division Air Operations and were successful in locating Sutherland. He was found several blocks away from the collision and police said he had changed his clothes to disguise his appearance.
During an interview, police said Sutherland admitted to driving the Ford F150 at the time of the crash. He was evaluated by officers which determined he was under the influence of a combination of illegal drugs, police say.
