Beckwourth Complex/Sugar Fire nears full containment

The Beckwourth Complex has burned a total of 105,670 acres as it approaches full containment.

BECKWOURTH, Calif. - As of Sunday, July 25, 2021, the Beckwourth Complex/Sugar Fire containment increased to 98% and the fire has burned a total of 105,076 acres. The numbers stayed the name all week, thru Saturday.

There are still 156 crew members firefighting or managing the incident.

The Dotta Fire is 100% contained and is 594 acres.

The last update from the Plumas County Sheriff's Office said there are no mandatory evacuation orders in Plumas County or Lassen Counties. Only property owners and residents may access these parts of Plumas County: All surrounding areas of Frenchmen Lake, Carmen Frenchmen Cove, Dooley, Frenchmen Village, Dixie Valley road from Beckwourth Genesee Road to Frenchmen Lake.

A forest closure Order remains in effect, so only property owners may access the area and may only access the area to visit their property.

Incident Command Team 5 took over fire management at 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2021.

The Dotta Fire started on June 30 in the Dotta Canyon while the Sugar Fire broke out on July 2 in the area of Sugarloaf Peak.

The cause of the fires has been determined to be lightning, the U.S. Forest Service said.

Officials combined the Sugar Fire and Dotta Fire into the Beckwourth Complex for firefighting management purposes.

Thankfully, the wind is cooperating much better today in northern California. Our weather is still quite hot for this time of year and very dry. There is plenty of haze and smoke from the Fawn Fire overhead, and it isn't leaving yet.
