CHICO, Calif. - One man in Chico opened a plant shop after overcoming many obstacles.

“I was diagnosed with chronic lyme disease and couldn’t work for a little over a year which led me to just this past August but in that down time when I was exhausted full-time and didn’t get out of bed a lot, I started thinking about what the future would look like form there,” said owner of Plant Love Chico, Scott Peterson.

He knew he needed to continue to pursue his passion in the plant world.

“I came up with a business plan very slowly because your brain with lyme disease struggles a bit to keep up everyday," said Peterson. "So far, thankfully, my health has held up enough that I can be here.”

Peterson said his shop is different from others because of the watering technique he uses that is called root watering.

“Here we have utilized the shelves out front where I can water into root water the plants," said Peterson. "Kind of flood those shelves with water. i can control that right here through these irrigation pieces where I can turn this and the water from here, will then go down to the next level and then i can water those plants so I can do that level.”

Peterson said that plants can help in creating a healthy environment during COVID-19.

“We know that house plants can help a little bit with the air quality in your home.”

He said that plants overall create a healthy lifestyle for people’s at home work spaces.

Plant Love Chico opened its doors on September 24th. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5:30 pm and Peterson said the shop has been very busy with people coming in and out buying new plants for their homes.

Another very windy day for northern California as an area of low pressure continues its southward trek over our state. Thankfully we'll have much quieter weather on Wednesday, with more rain and snow chances coming.
