TAHOE CITY, Calif. - The Placer County Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for the gunman in a deadly mall shooting.

The shooting happened just outside Boatworks Mall in Tahoe City on Saturday night.

Two men were sitting inside a car when the suspect shot into the vehicle from the outside, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies say that shooting incidents are not very common in the area.

"It's a very low frequency in the Tahoe area," said Sargeant Dave Hunt of the Placer County Sheriff's Office. "We don't usually come across shootings, but as with any type of city or town, we do have those kinds of incidents it's not on a frequency as high as a large city."

The sheriff's office has identified the victim as Octavio Villa-Villanueva, 33, of Sparks, NV. Another man is in critical condition and has not been identified yet.
