CHICO, Calif. - A woman is dead after a crash on Highway 99 in Chico Tuesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.
The woman, driving a 2006 white Toyota Scion, was driving north on Highway 99 just south of Cohasset Rd. in the first lane at highway speeds at 7:55 a.m.
The driver in a white panel van was driving behind the woman on the highway and was traveling very close to the Toyota in the first lane, according to witnesses CHP spoke with at the scene.
CHP said the witness said the van changed lanes to pass the woman before changing back into lane one directly in front of the Toyota.
The woman then steered to right due to the minimal clearance between the two vehicles and began to lose control.
The vehicle then left the roadway on the right side of Highway 99 and hit a tree before rolling over.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The van is described as a white panel van with no side windows and with paper plates.
Visible through the large rear window appeared to be medical supplies, according to witnesses.
Anyone with information about the driver and vehicle of the van is asked to contact CHP Chico.
