Shasta county’s housing market is booming… the economy in the county is doing well and business are growing in the area… but several construction companies are facing an issue that could halt that progress in its tracks. Top Hat energy is a solar company in Redding and like many others, their permit times for jobs are much higher than they should be… and in a lot of cases it’s bad for business. Jeremy Hufft, vice president of Top Hat Energy says “because they are trying to do it before schools out or before they go on vacation... and we are having to tell them it will be at least 2 or 3 months before we have a permit... it is causing some people to even move out to different counties.”

Other counties such as Lassen and Tehama as well as the city of Redding have permit wait times starting around a week… and it’s not just solar other contractors working on all types of jobs are saying how easy other areas are in comparison. But good news may be on the horizon. With a business like flight line storage expanding and others growing as well supervisor, Les Baugh says that they are supportive of businesses and residents coming into the county. Supervisor Les Baugh says that “you invest in your local economy your growing jobs your growing business your growing family. So I would say Shasta county open for business that's the long-term goal.”
