CHICO, Calif - Many people are concerned about their safety during these uncertain times and are rushing to local gun shops to purchase weapons in order to be prepared to take action if needed.
"As far as the rioting, it definitely makes you want to be prepared in case it does expand to our area," said gun owner, Jeff Ellis. "I think it is really up to the homeowner to take it upon themselves to protect themselves and their family."
One employee from Down Range said more people have been coming in since COVID-19 and the fall out from George Floyd's death
"Everything going on, I hope I would never have to use it, but you never know," said gun owner, Roberta Elder.
"Society is getting kind of iffy," said gun owner, Rae Eaton. "So if it deteriorates, I would like to be prepared."
The FBI reports they did more than 3.6 million background checks in July, which is the third most since they started tracking it in 1998.
Many people at Down Range said the main reason they came into the shop today was to re-learn how to use their weapons in case there is an incident where they need to protect themselves.
"I have a pistol and it has been a long time since I used it, so I came to renew it and re-learn how to use it," shared Elder.
"I purchased a shotgun and I need to learn how to use it correctly," said Eaton."
